Description: Terrariums are a unique way to display plants arranged in a glass container, normally bowls, tall glasses, high vases. Since there is no drainage in the container, the water regime is a crucial characteristic of you terrarium. It is normally prepared with a bottom layer of stones separated from the soil so you can see the water that gets to that layer and decide if the terrarium has enough water.
Location: Your terrarium should be located indoors in a natural light environment. Preferably 2 to 3 meters away from the window or source of light. Never in direct sunlight because it can raise the temperature and may kill the plants inside. Avoid changing position of your terrarium because the plants adapt to their light and humidity conditions and can be stress for many changes.
Water: With the purchase of your terrarium, we provide a watering bottle with a 100 ml capacity. The frequency to water your terrarium with the bottle is a maximum once a week. To do so, fill the bottle with water to the top and drip small amounts around each plant or in any “hole” between the plants. Let the water drain down to the drainage bottom layer (stones). You can also drip some water on the surface so that the soil layer can also get wet.
IMPORTANT: if there is loose water on the drainage layer, means that you water it too much, is important to let it dry completely until the next water otherwise the plants could rot and die. Quantify the amount of water and frequency so you can have your terrarium for several month even years. Notice that succulents and cactus plants need a lot less water because they store water in their leaves and body. Tropical looking plants may evaporate water faster, therefore need more water (keep it to the “once a week rule” for water and explore how it performs.
Other considerations: Since your terrarium has living beings, it is important to keep it nice and tidy by removing dead leaves or cutting overgrown little branches. That way, your terrarium will ensure long and beautiful life, decorating the space you assigned to it.
Twice a year, you can use a very weak solution of a general fertilizer if they require it. In any doubt, please do not hesitate to contact us. Enjoy your terrarium and thanks for your purchase!
